From world domination to Winnipeg in less than a week.
Whoa, Nelly!
Fresh off her World's Best Pop-Rock Artist win at Wednesday's 2006 World Music Awards in England, Victoria's Nelly Furtado returns to the motherland this weekend to headline the half-time show during Sunday's Grey Cup game at Canad Inns Stadium in Winnipeg.
"The Grey Cup is a Canadian tradition and the largest single-day sporting event in the country," said CFL Commissioner Tom Wright. "We're thrilled to have one of Canada's greatest talents entertain CFL fans everywhere on Grey Cup Sunday."
And while Winnipeg doesn't usually rank high on many Canadians' winter-getaway lists, Furtado is excited to be performing in her home country at an event many Canucks hold close to their hearts.
"The Grey Cup is a national treasure and I'm thrilled to be performing at this year's game in Winnipeg," Furtado said. "Year after year, the entertainment bar is raised and I'm looking forward to continuing the tradition."
Of course, one football half-time tradition the sexy singer won't want to continue would be the one started by Janet Jackson at the 2004 Superbowl.
After all, it is Winnipeg. The forecast calls for a low of -5.
That's pretty nippy.
